Originating from the rugged Galloway district of Scotland, Belted Galloway cattle—or "Belties"—are a storied heritage breed known for their striking white midsection and exceptional resilience.

Tracing back to the 16th century, these naturally polled cattle likely evolved from crossing native Black Galloways with Dutch Belted livestock. Their unique double coat provides natural insulation, allowing them to thrive in harsh climates without developing excess backfat.

Physically, Belties are defined by a sturdy beef conformation, featuring deep bodies, broad breasts, and a protective wavy coat.

In North America, mature bulls typically weigh between 1,800 and 2,000 lbs, while cows range from 1,100 to 1,300 lbs and are celebrated for their longevity and maternal instincts.

Beyond their aesthetic appeal, the breed is highly prized for producing lean, flavorful meat with high dress-out weights, making them an efficient and sustainable choice for modern beef operations.
